
The comic is certainly dark and violent and filled with death. And so you wind up with deaths that elicit little more than a shrug from the viewer. Characters wildly vacillate in motivation and actions from episode to episode. The show is marked by unrelenting darkness-human violence that means nothing. But it is very, very different than anything we see in the show, which is nothing if not flabby.

A significant new character is introduced-the woman picture on the cover-stir-crazy and wielding a spear (I’m glad to see someone with a spear-it seems like such an obvious weapon in this situation). Things are setup for what looks to be a major conflict going forward, but I won’t spoil that. Characters are still dealing with the ramifications-grieving, questioning decisions made, ruminating over how to move forward. Volume 29 deals with the aftermath of the fight with the giant herd from Vol. And this was a slow volume of the comic, but contrasting it with the show will, I think, show why it is a good graphic novel nonetheless. The “Governor” novel series began in 2011 with Rise of the Governor and concluded in 2014 with The Fall of the Governor, Part 2. The comic book series is currently ongoing. Tony Moore pencilled the first six issues, while Charlie Adlard has done the art ever since. Each graphic novels is comprised of six issues of the comic book series. Robert Kirkman began his Walking Dead series in 2003, with the first graphic novel ( Days Gone Bye) published in 2004.

In 2010, the series was premiered as a television drama adaptation, developed by Frank Darabont. The focus of the series is on Kentucky police officer Rick Grimes, who along with his family and many others, must survive a zombie apocalypse.
